Abacus School on site of the old Police Station
Special meeting Wednesday 9 th March 2016 at 7pm at Keats Library

You may or may not be aware that there are plans to house the Belsize Park Abacus Free School in the old police station building at the top of Downshire Hill.

It is proposed that the school will have an annual two form intake with a maximum capacity, once it has been running a few years, of 420 pupils. It is currently planned that the school will open in September 2017.

The school is to be established as a non religious school that will serve the Belsize Park area. At the moment the catchment area excludes Downshire Hill and its environs although this may change once the results of the recent consultation process is known.

Whatever the catchment area, the school will need to obtain planning permission before any work can start and an application is expected soon.

On Wednesday evening, (9 th March at 7pm) the Downshire Hill Residents’ Association is holding a public meeting to discuss the school and what the DHRA’s position should be as far as the presence of a school of this size in Downshire Hill is concerned.

The outcome of the meeting will help inform our response when the planning application is published.
